Tomato Rasam – Simple but tasty!!

Rasam is a perfect alternative for those who do not like packaged soup…

TamarindSmall Lemon Size
Tomato1 (Big)
Garlic6-7 cloves
Cumin Seeds1 Tbsp
Pepper1 Tbsp
Green Chilly2
Oil2 Tbsp
Mustard1 Tsp
Fenu Greek¼ Tsp
Curry LeavesAs required
Coriander LeavesAs required
Red Chilly3
Turmeric Powder½ Tsp
Asafetida½ Tsp
Sugar1 Pinch
SaltAs required


  • Soak the tamarind in water for 10 minutes.
  • Coarse Grind Garlic, Cumin, Pepper and Green Chilly.
  • Take oil in pan.
  • Add Mustard, Fenu Greek and Curry Leaves to the oil.
  • Add Red chilly to the above mixture.
  • Add Turmeric Powder and Asafetida to it.
  • Add the paste got from Step 2 to the pan and fry it for 2 minutes.
  • Squeeze the tomato and add it to the pan. Fry the same for 3-4 minutes.
  • Squeeze the soaked Tamarind to a vessel to get the juice.
  • Add the tamarind juice to the frying pan.
  • Add salt as required when it starts to boil
  • Add coriander leaves and pinch of sugar at the end.
