Munthiri Kothu – A healthy and tasty snack!!

Munthiri Kothu, a sweet from down south in India is a healthy snack for people of all ages. This blog looks on how to prepare the tasty snacks.

Ingredients :

Green Gram         200 gms
Boiled Rice50 gms
Palm Jaggery200 gms
Rice Flour3 tbsp
Maida1 tbsp
Grated Coconut1 handful
WaterΒΌ cup
Sesame Seed1 tsp
GheeAs required
Cashew NutsAs required
Cardamom4 nos
Turmeric Powder1 pinch


  1. Roast Green Gram and Boiled Rice in a pan separately.
  2. Add Cardamom to Roasted Green Gram and Boiled Rice .
  3. Grind the mixture into coarse powder.
  4. Keep aside the powdered mixture.


  1. Roast Grated Coconut till it becomes Golden Brown.
  2. Add Sesame Seed and Roast it.
  3. Fry Cashew Nuts in Ghee .


  1. Add the Roasted Coconut ,Sesame Seed and Fried Cashew Nuts with the powdered mixture (from step 1).


  1. Take Palm Jaggery in a Pan and Add water to the level of Palm Jaggery.
  2. Boil it to make Palm Jaggery Syrup.
  3. Filter it and Add to the mixture (from step 3).
  4. Mix it well and Make Balls while it is in mild heat.
  5. Allow the Balls to cool completely


  1. Take Rice Flour,Maida and Turmeric Powder in a bowl .
  2. Add Water and make a paste (Not so liquid).


  1. Heat Oil in a Pan.
  2. Dip Balls(from step 4) in the paste(from step 5) and drop it into the Oil.
  3. Fry it well till the outer layer becomes crispy.

Your Munthiri Kothu snacks is ready!!
